BMW’s latest off-road story is bigger than a new paint scheme. The 2027 BMW F 450 GS brings a completely new, lighter GS into the middleweight adventure space, while the 2027 R 12 G/S strengthens its retro-enduro role and the R 1300 GS / GS Adventure receive their latest model-year updates.
For riders following BMW’s off-road lineup, the most important development is the F 450 GS: a new 420cc parallel-twin platform with genuine GS hardware, multiple riding modes and a Trophy version built around more serious off-road equipment.

2027 F 450 GS: BMW Builds a Smaller GS from Scratch
The 2027 BMW F 450 GS is the headline. Rather than shrinking an existing GS, BMW developed a new 420cc parallel-twin engine and a new chassis around the 48-hp class.
BMW lists output at 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. Ready-to-ride weight is listed at just 178 kg, giving the F 450 GS a very different size and weight profile from the F 900 GS or boxer-powered GS models.

For riders who care most about dirt performance, the F 450 GS Trophy is the most interesting version. It adds equipment that would otherwise be common first upgrades on a new adventure motorcycle.

The Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) is one of the more unusual pieces of new technology. It uses a centrifugal-clutch system to allow starting and stopping without manually operating the clutch lever, while still retaining a conventional lever for rider control when needed.
2027 R 12 G/S: Retro Style, Serious Off-Road Intent
The R 12 G/S takes a very different approach. It uses BMW’s 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer and deliberately looks back to the original R 80 G/S, but its off-road equipment is far more modern.
For 2027, BMW lists a new Frozen Brooklyn Grey Metallic Option 719 color, adds Connected Ride Control to the Premium Package, and continues to offer the Enduro Package Pro.
Its off-road credentials became especially visible in July 2026, when BMW revealed the R 12 G/S-based competition bike for the International GS Trophy in Romania.

2027 R 1300 GS: No Redesign, but the Flagship GS Continues
The 2027 R 1300 GS is not another clean-sheet redesign. The current 1,300cc boxer platform continues with 145 hp and 110 lb-ft of torque, along with Dynamic ESA, ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control and BMW’s Matrix LED headlight.
The 2027 update is mainly about specification and appearance, including a changed Option 719 Imperial Blue Metallic treatment rather than a major mechanical overhaul.

2027 R 1300 GS Adventure: Long-Range GS Gets Fresh Graphics
The R 1300 GS Adventure also remains mechanically familiar for 2027. BMW keeps the 145-hp boxer engine, Dynamic ESA and a 7.9-gallon fuel tank with integrated attachment points.
For the new model year, BMW lists updated graphics for the Style GS Trophy Racing Blue Metallic and Option 719 Aurelius Green Metallic Matte versions. That means the GSA’s 2027 story is refinement rather than reinvention.

BMW’s 2027 off-road lineup now covers a much wider range of riders. The biggest change is not at the top of the range — it is the arrival of a much lighter GS.
